5 benefits of massage – feel amazing inside & out

Massage can be extremely beneficial in sooooo many ways!!

I want to talk about the benefits of massage on both your mind and body.

Massage is a great way to help your body thrive.

Feel amazing inside and out

If you’ve ever had a massage, you’ll know that they are great for helping you feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

Massage therapy is known to decrease cortisol levels in the body.  Cortisol is the stress hormone and when this is decreased we can generally feel calmer, both mentally and physically.

So many benefits from massage

Massage has so many benefits.  I want to talk about 5 top reasons to introduce massage into your life.

Having a professional massage once a month can have life changing effects.

Let’s have a look at just some of the main benefits.

Decrease stress levels – feel amazing

Of course, we all experience stress in our lives,.  There are 2 types of stress, both good and bad.

Stress causes an elevation in cortisol, the stress hormone.  This increase can wreak havoc on our body and mind and cause dysfunction and even disease.

Massages can help to decrease cortisol and manage stress in many ways.

One of the physical benefits of massage therapy can help decrease the stress response our body and mind produce and actually lower cortisol.

Another benefit is that the massage allows one to decompress, relax, unwind and rest.  This is important in stressful times in order to balance out the other feelings and emotions that may result from stress such as anxiety and depression.

Increase flexibility in muscles

Flexibility in our muscles allows us to move comfortably and participate in normal activities without pain or stiffness.
It allows our joints to move through their entire normal range of motion and gives us proper form, posture, and function.
Massage therapy helps to improve flexibility in our muscles because it improves blood flow and oxygen circulation to muscles.  This then helps decrease muscular tightness or knots and lengthening tissue.
Maintaining flexibility is key as we age as well.

Increase immune function

Massages help the body to work more effectively and efficiently thus boosting the immune system.

There is an increase in circulation, oxygenation, healing cells and blood flow, decreased cortisol and even an effect on the endocrine system itself.

The immune system is what fights off colds, viruses, and even diseases.

When this system is working at it’s most optimum, our bodies can function so much better and fight off infections.

Reduce pain – from head to toe

Massage therapy can reduce pain in many ways, such as decreasing the tightness in muscles and pain related to trigger points or knots.
Massage can also help to desensitise areas that are painful and reduce the mind-body hypersensitivity related to chronic pain.
Reduced pain can lead to an improvement in quality of life.
For example when we are at our most optimum and pain free, it helps us increase our activity level and also improves mood.

Sleep better – sounds remarkable doesn’t it?

When we are stressed and tense it can lead to poor sleep.  Massages improve overall relaxation and decrease stress levels; in turn leading to better sleep.
Massage can also increase serotonin levels, which is a feel good neurotransmitter.  Serotonin also helps to increase melatonin and leads to a better sleep cycle.
Getting proper sleep is a must to help your body and brain function well.

So much more:

As you can see from this list, massage therapy produces many benefits for us!
There are numerous other benefits from massages, these are just what a few I wanted to bring to your attention,
Decreasing stress and combating the effects of stress is important at any age.  Sometimes we do not even realise our stress levels are rising.

It is important to introduce relaxation techniques, such as massage, into our lives to maintain a balance.

Massage if part of looking after yourself and everyone can benefit from a little more self care.
